General Notes:
Transcribed from a letter written by Marianne Anderson, April 26, 1997
Dear George,

Is a gloomy day here, so a good time to write a letter your way.
I enclose 4 forms you sent for family tree data. One on Ivan?s parents, one on Ivan & myself; one on our oldest daughter Patricia & her family; and one on Cindy & her family. I didn't do a separate page for Richard as he's not married now & has no children to list. Hope I did them right. There was one other different data sheets I didn?t do, I wasn?t sure who to put on it & dates, etc would be same as on the ones I did.
Thank you for letting us keep the pictures you sent of Ivan's parents. And thanks for calling when you got back in Arizona. Sorry you couldn't come then & hope you'll be able to do so soon in June.
Glad to hear you had a success in finding property in Arizona. In Phoenix, or where? When do you plan to be retiring?
You asked for information on Ivan's Dad & Mom.
Arthur Imanuel (Ivan?s dad) was born on the Anderson homestead in Kearny County, near Axtell, NE. He was one of 10 children born to William Ernest and Matilda (Tillie) Christina Johnson. There were seven boys and three girls. One son died at 9 months old. The rest lived good long lives, all are now deceased. They were active members of Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Axtell. Ernest and Matilda were both born in Sweden, both met in the U.S. where they were married.
When Arthur left the homestead, he farmed in Nebraska for several years then moved to North Vernon, Indiana, where he met Ivan?s Mother Bessie Clarke. She was a nurse at a hospital there. Bessie was born in England (dates on data sheet). She came to the US at age 18 and lived in North Vernon, Indiana. They married in 1916.
They lived and farmed there for five years, where Ivan & his sister, Lillian were both born.
They moved to North Dakota in 1921. Arthur farmed at a rural Madison, S.D. for several years & raised an outstanding herd of Jersey cows.
Bessie was the youngest of 7 children born to Albert & Lucy (Padfield) Clarke in Holcombe, England. Three boys & four girls. To our knowledge they are all deceased. (note: when Ivan was in the service overseas in Europe, he was wounded and sent to England where he was able to go and visit one of Bessie?s brothers-then living in Bristol, England.
About 1939, Arthur sold the farm near Madison, South Dakota and moved to Calfornia. They were divorced then and Bessie moved in with Lillian & her family, where she remained for the rest of her life. She is buried at the Madison, South Dakota cemetery. I believe it?s called Graceland Cemetery.
Arthur lived in California the rest of his life, but came back to Midwest several times to visit. He had various jobs in Calif.; ran a grocery store; worked for Port Washington; for Army Air Corps at San Pedro; at Port of Embarkation; as a Port Waterman, retiring in 1947. He is buried at the Green Hills Memorial Park at Long Beach, California.
I hope the above information is of interest to you. Any other questions, just ask.
My next step is go to the photo albums and try to find some to send you of us, our kids & grandkids. Hopefully some not too old but fairly good for you to copy. I'm glad you can copy them and return photos as usually have only one of any of them.
While I'm writing, here?s a list about our 3 kids. Patricia (Pat) took training after high school as an x-ray technician. Her husband, Dale is a chiropractor. They live in LAS VEGAS, NV. JEFF GRADUATED LAS MAY (1996) FROM UNIV. OF SAN DIEGO WITH A DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION. JEREMY GRADED IN MAY FROM THE UNIV. OF COLORADO AT BOULDER WITH A DEGREE IN MUSIC, HE'S AN EXCELLENT MUSICIAN, PLAYS THE VIOLIN. JOSHUA WILL BE A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL NEXT FALL.
RICHARD GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE WITH A DEGREE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE. HE'S CURRENTLY SELF-EMPLOYED AND LIVES IN KENSINGTON, California.
CYNTHIA (CINDY) IS A REGISTERED NURSE AND WORKS IN A HOPSITAL IN SEATTLE, Washington. HER HUSBAND, John, CURRENTLY WORKS AT A CASINO. THEY LIVE IN EDMONDS, Washington. JENNIFER AND AMANDA WILL SOON BE 12 & 13, AND BE IN THE 7TH AND 8TH GRADES IN THE FALL.
BEST REGARDS,
IVAN & MARIANNE
